What I think is problematic is that theologians rarely have the knowledge or bravery to jump into science (when they have it has ended badly), while scientists don't want to address religion unless it is simply to criticise religion for being unscientific for fear of being made fun of by other scientists. A true scientist needs to approach all ideas with an open mind and recognize when science reaches its limits. Likewise, a theologian has to recognize that if their beliefs are true, then they should stand up to logical scrutiny. These twin mindsets often come together in the philosophy department which is sadly neglected by both camps.
